A scooter is good alternative to walking, offering a mechanical boost with portability unrivaled by even a bicycle. However, any shopping you might pick up along the way requires a backpack.
That’s where the Nimble cargo scooter (via Treehugger) comes in. Created by a team of four designers, it features a a heavy-duty container that resembles a Rubbermaid-style bin on the front for carrying items.
The Nimble weighs 30 pounds unloaded, and has a cargo capacity of 250 to 300 pounds, although it’s hard to say what affect a full load will have on the average rider, who still has to push the scooter like any old Razor.
Momentum is controlled with a rear-wheel brake, and the box is designed to prevent the Nimble from tipping over, so riders can lean into corners as if they were on any other two-wheeled vehicle.
The box itself is made from high-density polyethylene plastic, which is recycled and food grade. The open top might make it a tempting target for thieves, but the Nimble could be just as useful inside a large building like a warehouse.
The Nimble is made entirely in California, and is currently on sale through the Nimble Scooters website for $299.
