Here’s a hot item for you. Its a ceramic wireless speaker with Bluetooth capability that’s powered by fire. Forgive the pun.
The Pelty Bluetooh speaker (via TreeHugger) harnesses electricity from the heat of a candle, making it truly wireless. There’s not need to speculate about where the electricity is coming from.
The device gets its name from its power source, a Peltier cooler. According to the designers, Peltier coolers are actually somewhat inefficient on their own, but the Pelty speaker’s design helps maximize the temperature differences necessary to produce enough power. It’s ceramic-and-glass construction also helps, as both materials have suitable heat and sound-conducting properties.
A single candle should be good for a few hours of power, while the 3-inch, full-range speaker itself will produce 95 db (measured from 50 centimeters away).
Production will be funded through an Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign. So if candle-powered speakers sound like music to your ears, head over to the campaign site to make a donation. Again, excuse the pun.
