When an object has reached the end of its useful life, it’s important to recycle it to conserve resources. The discarded item is often treated like just that: an anonymous wad of raw material that must be destroyed to create something new.
That’s not always the case, though. Sometimes it’s possible to repurpose an object and use its original form to make a style statement. That’s what the Matosinhos School of Art and Design (via Inhabitat) did with its new line of glassware.
Designers from the Portuguese school created Stallo, a set of attractive cups made from old glass bottles. Each cup is the upper half of a bottle set on a ceramic base that’s inserted through the neck.
Stallo emphasizes the process of turning old items into new ones, and means you’ll never have to tell people that your glasses use recycled material.
