Sustainability and rampant digital technology are two trends that can often be combined for the betterment of consumers. Smart devices allow monitoring of the resources we use.
The latest example of this is the tado° Cooling, an air conditioning monitor from a German startup that has already launched a smart heating device and accompanying app.
According to TreeHugger, what differentiates tado° Cooling from other smart AC control devices is its ability to work with smaller, less-sophisticated units that are less likely to have “smart” features.
The device connects to an air conditioner via infrared–like a television remote–and interfaces with a smartphone through local WiFi. Among other things, the system knows to turn the AC off when the last person leaves the room, and to pre-cool the house when it sense the owner is approaching.
tado° ran a highly successful Kickstarter campaign to funding the Cooling, surpassing its $150,000 goal with $204,487 in backing. You can find more information on the device and pre-order one at the campaign page.
