Electric cars like the Nissan LEAF and Tesla Model S are praised by environmental advocates and loathed by conservatives who view them as weak hippie mobiles, but what are the actual benefits of trading the gas pump for the plug?
Fix.com (via InsideEVs) put together this infographic explaining the benefits of electric cars. Those benefits primarily involve saving the planet by cutting greenhouse-gas emissions, and saving money by cutting fuel costs out of owners’ budgets.
Right now, though, electric cars are hindered by short driving ranges, long charging times, and typically higher purchase prices compared to comparable internal-combustion models.
Despite these drawbacks, electric cars are likely here to stay. Tightening global emissions regulations are forcing carmakers to improve the efficiency of their products, which is already leading to an increased number of electric-car models and efforts by both governments and car companies to get people to buy them.
