From cars to bicycles, electric power has become the darling of the sustainability crowd, but should manufacturers be thinking smaller?
The Trikelet (via Inhabitat) is a three-wheel portable scooter that’s billed as the “most compact foldable electric vehicle in the world.” It’s not the catchiest title, but that could mean a lot for commuters who need to store their rides on buses, trains, and at offices.
Trikelet’s designers claim it folds up into a package (complete with carrying handles) smaller than a piece of carry-on luggage. The wheels even fold up to prevent dirt and water from getting on clean floors. Once unfurled, the scooter can reach speeds of up to 12 mph, and can go 9 miles on a single charge.
The Trikelet is still under development, but its designers hope to complete that work within a year. They plan to do a sort of soft launch demonstration program before putting the scooter on sale.
