The Digital Age has brought with it a couple of issues: An ever-increasing need for electricity to power smartphones and tablets, and the sedentary lifestyle those devices inspire.
WeWatt hopes to solve both of those problems. The company installed its first WeBikes cycle desks at the Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam earlier this year, and is expanding quickly. The company hopes to move the bikes from public spaces to offices, according to Co.Exist.
The stationary bikes allow people to get some exercise by pedaling, while also charging their phones using the electricity generated by their cycling. It takes about 30 minutes to charge an iPhone on a WeBike, the same as if it was plugged into a wall.
Pedaling and working at the same time may sound challenging, but WeWatts claims studies have shown that light exercise actually improves concentration while working at a computer.
