The use of bicycles and electric cars is on the rise, but what would happen if you combined the two?
You’d get this three-wheeled pod, apparently. Called the ELF (Electric, Light, Fun), it’s the product of North Carolina-based Organic Transit. It’s classified as a bike, but can be powered by solar or electric power, in addition to pedal power.
The 150-pound ELF can travel 14 miles per charge, and has a top speed of 20 mph (the driver’s pedaling can tack on 10 mph). It has disc brakes, carbon-fiber body panels, and a 60-watt photovoltaic solar panel that can recharge the ELF in seven hours of sunlight. The same can be accomplished in three hours by plugging into a wall socket.
Organic Transit plans to sell the ELF at a starting price of $5,495. It can also be ordered from the Hammacher Schlemmer catalog for $9,900.
